While I found that the rotary cutter was easy to open (I simply followed the instructions to open on the package) I was extremely disappointed in it. After contacting the manufacturer I discovered that you can not change the blade due to the design. I feel that $10.99 plus tax is quite a bit for a throwaway product as well for something that will be on this earth for a very long time after I'm long dead. I'm still unsure of how best to dispose of it when I'm finished with it. The company (dritz) did offer to send me a replacement though (which I declined as I prefer rotary cutters that the blades are changeable).
Loved it. Did find it hard to open, but once it was opened it worked like a charm.
